While the two or three ladies who run the front counter are lovely human beings--they REFUSE (in a town of less than 2,000 people and roughly 200 post office boxes ) to deliver packages THEY DEEM improperly addressed "house number, street, post office box." They will NOT check addresses against post office boxes when packages arrive. They insist that the post office box number be added at the end of a street address--despite the fact a majority of the shippers/vendors computer systems kick out the address as INVALID. Yes! INVALID! This is a danged if you do and danged if you don't situation the recipient has little or NO control over. I am sick of more than half of my orders (things I have paid for) being returned and delayed, requiring reshipment because vendors do not follow the "postal ladies" specific instructions. What ever happened to "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Oh! Right, impossible specifics vendors will NOT and often CANNOT comply with--because the lovely ladies at the post office can't check addresses. I would also note that it does not stop mail addressed to other people (who do NOT reside at my address, and who are NOT listed as recipients) from frequent appearances in my boxes. I've tried for over a year to work with this situation, and it is impossible and beyond irritating. I don't think the Johnson City Post Office has the right to return packages. Should we all have everything addressed by name AND "General Delivery, Johnson City Post Office 78636"--and let them sort it out THAT way? Returning "deliverable" mail is ridiculous. It can be medicine, expensive, many things--they do not care--oops, no box number--no can do--and it goes back. Totally frustrated with an unworkable situation and sick of having my packages returned. The alternative is to pay a fee in Dripping Springs for them to hold packages--not right at all.
